Trades Made During the Draft
- The Montreal Canadiens traded F Lars Eller to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2017 2nd round pick and a 2018 2nd round pick.
- The Chicago Blackhawks sent F Andrew Shaw to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for the 39th and 45th overall picks in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
- The Calgary Flames acquired G Brian Elliott from the St. Louis Blues and sent the 35th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft in return to St. Louis.
- The contract of F Pavel Datsyuk was traded along with the 16th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft from the Detroit Red Wings to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for F Joe Vitale, the 20th overall pick and the 53rd overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
- The Philadelphia Flyers sent their 18th overall and 79th overall picks in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft to the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for the 22nd and 36th overall picks.
- The Washington Capitals traded their 26th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft to the St. Louis Blues for the 28th and 87th overall picks in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
